Chad Leat: Former Investment Banker with Citigroup


Chad Leat was an investment banker with Citigroup for over 16 years – a tenure that rounded out a highly successful 30-year career on Wall Street. Initially a partner in High Yield Capital Markets with Salomon Brothers (1997),

Leat proved an invaluable asset to Citigroup throughout his time with the firm – not only as the Global Head of Loans and Leveraged Finance between 1998 and 2005, but also as co-head of Global Credit Markets (2006-2007) and as Chairman of the Global Financial Sponsors Group (2009-2013).

As the Global Head of Loans and Leveraged Finance, Leat was responsible for growing the business into one of the biggest and most successful high-yield and loan operations of its kind on Wall Street – one that would end up contributing more than $1 billion in revenue every year.

And as co-head of Global Credit Markets, Chad Leat provided leadership to more than 1,000 employees around the globe – something that included all of the company’s debt capital and credit trading market groups producing revenues of more than $3 billion a year.

Leat would serve on Citigroup’s Capital Markets Origination Committee, Fixed Income Management Committee and Investment Banking Management Committee before retiring as Citigroup Vice Chairman of Global Investment Banking in 2013.

Banker Chad A. Leat - Giving Back to the LGBTQ Community


Successful investment banker Chad Leat enjoys the opportunity to support worthwhile causes – and to capitalize on his success to make a difference when and wherever possible. 

The Retired Vice Chairman of Global Banking at Citigroup, Leat has made contributions to a number of philanthropic and civic-minded organizations over his career, including a recent $1 million donation to his alma mater, Kansas University.

It was on February 28, 2018, that Chad Leat donated the sum to the Chad A. Leat Student Scholarship, a scholarship fund first established by Leat in 2006. Leat’s $1 million donation was one of the largest gifts the KU Endowment Association has ever received for LGBTQ students.

Originally from Tonganoxie, Kansas, Leat is proud to make such a meaningful and lasting investment in KU’s LGBTQ community. As the first in his family to graduate from college, Leat is happy not only to reward KU students in need of financial support, but to give back to the school that provided him such a fulfilling student career.

Chad A. Leat is a retired financial professional who led a prolific decades-long career on Wall Street. He began his career on Wall Street at The Chase Manhattan Corporation in their Capital Markets Group in 1985, and he retired as Vice Chairman of Global Banking at Citigroup Inc. in 2013.
